I’ve written about this before—I find I do my best writing stream of conscious—when I just write and don’t stop to think and outline what I’m trying to get across. My best drafts are my first drafts. But there’s a problem inherent in that. Every great writer has an editor. I can’t just let my fingers loose and toss out pages of a thesis paper in one go like I used to.

There’s a next level I’m missing. I want to do better. I know I can do better, but I need to get beyond the first draft.
